Hello everyone! My name is MagikCat (no one ever gets my real name right so I won't tell unless someone asks , and I just turned 19. I'm a university student in California, and had the first four books read to me by my mom when I was about 9. I have loved them ever since. I was actually looking up Harry Potter spoilers when I was lead to the then-thriving Sugarquill.net instead. Once I was drawn into this world of creativity (I've always been a writer) I was hooked. That was five years ago, but only recently have tried to become more involved. I'm so glad I did because I've made so many great friends! I'm bit more conservative then most people, but am usually careful to relate my opinions with as much politeness and respect as possible. Which is probably why house would be Hufflepuff. Quick note: I also write VERY fast, so I apologize in advance for any typos in future posts.

Hello, everyone!
I'm nundu. I 'discovered' Harry Potter in late 2001, read all four (then) books in about three days, then went in search of further diversion. I found the Quill not long after and enjoyed the friendships forged there.
I write a bit of fanfiction, leaning more and more towards Arthur/Molly and am a stickler for canon. I also draw the occasional portrait of HP characters.
I'm delighted to see the response to this site. I hope to renew old friendships and make many new ones!

Hello all! I'm also from the late, lamented Sugar Quill. I was Miss Hickerson there, as well. I dabble in original fiction, but I have a hard time finishing stories. I haven't done any fanfiction, although I do enjoy reading well-written fics. Horrible spelling and bad grammar irks me to no end.
I'm in my early 30's, work full time, go to school part time (accounting), have two cats and two ferrets, and just enjoy observing life in all its strangeness.

Hey everyone. As the name suggests, I am Catherine. I'm 22, from New Zealand, and I am a recent university graduate. I have a degree in classical studies, focussing on literature and mythology (I also studies Latin, archaeology and social anthropology) as well as a diploma in web development. My younger sister discovered Harry Potter before me, and I read it because she liked it. Of the two of us, though, I'm the one who got involved in fandom and, well, likes to read for pleasure now. I wrote a bit of fanfic, made a few music videos etc. but I never stepped forward too much. Mostly I played in original character HPverse RPGs because I loved the world so much. I don't participate much in fandom activities now (save fandom_wank and various forums like this) as I've moved on to original writing, which takes up most of my writing time and effort. I've got one novel in its second round of beta-editing and another one in the very early stages of writing. While the universes I currently write in for orig-fic are nowhere near as complicated or detailed as JKR's, I still use that as an inspiration, a yardstick of a kind. Aside from writing, I like to blog and design websites: as of this moment I have two blogs and one forumm dedicated to YA fiction. You can generally find me on places as some form of "disdainful soul", be it "disdainfulsoul", "Disdainful Soul" or with hyphens in it. And if not, Amynta or Catherine'll be your next bet. Oh, and I'm a Hufflepuff. Nice to meet you all!

Hello, This is my first time in a HP area like this most I have visited spent way to much time with teeny boppers extoling their LUV for HP and saying OMG to each other. I am a regular EC attendee, (I kept my name from there, an Earth's Children adaptation of my RL name) and found this through there. I was just bemoaning (to myself) the inability to find an adult site to discuss the finer points of HP and all things Hogwartsian. Then I went wandering on EC, and found a link here, this looks good!! I read lots of fan fic, and have written none, although I am always tempted. My HP experience has been... always have been a voracious fantasy/scifi reader, heard the hype re:HP and said (again to myself-I talk to myself a lot, but I always listen and never annoy myself with stupid replies) "it just can't be that good" So, didn't read until book 4 came out, when 2 of my aunts and 1 cousin (all adults, and whom I respected) extolled the virtues of the series so much that I finally after fighting very hard... I broke down bought and read Book 1, and was HOOKED. Bought 2-4 and then once I gobbled those down began the wait for 5-7, and movies. I am hoping to really enjoy my visits here, looking forward to some good discussions.

Well, I have always sorted into Gryffindor, when I have answered questions on various websites. But think of myself as more Hufflepuff or Ravenclaw, and I think of myself as a bit of a plodder/and hard work is sort of my forte, am into medicine and pretty smart.... don't think of myself as particularly heroic...

Welcome, Kareena!
My sister read all the EC novels and we have a long running joke about Ayla and her propensity for inventing or discovering, well, nearly everything.
Just a note on posting--in the future please edit posts rather than making consecutive posts.
I should introduce myself. I was on the SugarQuill as CHH but I decided to go with a different name here because CHH was boring. I started reading HP shortly before GoF came out. I was working at B&N and so many people were asking me if I'd read it that I decided to read it just to get people off my back. If I liked it, great, and if I didn't at least I could tell people I'd given it a chance. I read the first book, then went and bought the other two.
The nice thing about working at the bookstore was the I was guaranteed a copy. GoF had a print run of 3.8 million and it sold 3 million that weekend. I could tell you some stories about how desperate some people were to get a copy. In fact, our store sold out the original shipment and if our district manager hadn't dropped off six boxes at 2:00 am, we wouldn't have had any books to sell that weekend.

Hello! I'm Queenie, as I used to be known on the old 'Quill - the Queen of Filks, they called me. I'm very excited to be here, and am so glad that Author By Night introduced me. I'm now 19 years old and a freshman in a small college in Southern California. I just finished a 300+ page Harry Potter fanfiction that hopefully marks a new chapter in my career as a writer. I'm starting to work towards a major in English with a Creative Writing Emphasis, and possibly a French minor. Harry Potter, I think, is something that'll always mean a lot to me and have a great influence on my writing, but the phase where I dwelt on it day and night is over. Other stories I enjoy are Discworld books, His Dark Materials, The Old Kingdom, and Avatar the Last Airbender (that isn't a book.) I also love musical theater! As for Houses, I always knew I'd be a Ravenclaw - I'm very introverted and very thoughtful, however, I do admire the Hufflepuff ideals very, very much, and strive to emulate them. (Wow, I sound very Quixotic right now )

Post by Ilene Bones on Mar 29, 2009 10:52:01 GMT -5
Hi! Like many of the posters here I used to post at the Sugar Quill forums, and I posted some fics there as well. My SQ username was just ilene and if I ever find the time to write another HP fanfic it will be as ilene as well, to keep continuity.
However, since I had the option I decided to use a different Display Name for this forum. "Ilene Bones" is a tribute to the title I was bestowed by the SQ Mods, "SQ's Own Amelia Bones". I loved that title because it implies I am fair, reasonable, and ethical; I hope I actually do measure up to those standards in my time here.
I am very encouraged to have found this forum not just because of the many familar usernames I see, but the quality of this discussion which reminds me of the best about the Sugar Quill forums. I have missed the spirited but civil discussions I used to participate in at SQ. Since the canon discussion was ended there, I have perused many other HP fora but most of the discussions (especially post-DH) seemed to be either negative and bitter, or positive but shallow. I also ran across quite a few trolls that made me miss the well-moderated SQ forum even more. I know there is a call for mods out there and if I had time I'd love to help out, but unfortunately I am a little too busy with real life right now. I prefer to keep the details of my real life private but I will say that I am around 30 years old, live in the U.S. in New York State, and work in the health care field.
As for my House, I have always thought I'd have ended up in Ravenclaw, though it seems the original Madam Bones was a Hufflepuff (don't think this was ever officially confirmed, though). Mostly because, although I admire the Hufflepuff ideals of fairness and hard work, I also see Hufflepuff as a house that depends on teamwork and the power of the group to make things happen. I definitely have an introverted personality, and don't think I'd have fit in well in Hufflepuff. That being said, the Hat might possibly have given me a choice between Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw. Ravenclaw, I think, would win because I think of myself as a lifelong learner, am interested in many topics from interior design to forensic science to pro sports to the question of whether Bigfoot exists. Yes, the whole Bigfoot thing pretty much would have earned me a spot next to Luna Lovegood; though I'm actually not convinced either way about Bigfoot. I just find the possibility fascinating, and I really love learning about all the stuff out there in this world.
As for the other Houses, I think I'm a little too idealistic to be a Slytherin, and certainly couldn't keep up with the social schmoozing and wheeling-dealing that a guy like Slughorn represents (though I like him as a character). I'm a little too quiet and shy to be a Gryffindor, and I'm the procrastinating type that really need to mull over and think about what to do before taking action, and would probably faint or run around in a panic in a front-line battle situation -- though I might be useful in drawing up the battle plans beforehand.
Well, thanks if you've read this far. See you around in the forums!

Ilene! How I remember you! You came up with that wonderful idea of the Ravenclaw Common Room being opened with a riddle. And then that idea, of course, turned out to be accurate! Welcome to the Willow.

Wow that was very clever Ilene! I wanted to tell you that I remember you best for your story about Scrimgeour's fall. I recommended it to an LJ missing moments site. They post a lot of sugarquill material.

Hi! I'm Rugi. I'm a twenty-something lawyer living in the Southern US (still kind of missing Chicago). Many years ago, I wrote some HP fanfiction, but I haven't in a long time. Still love the HP world to pieces though. I used to be fairly active at SQ, and the username is still the same.

Hello. I'm known by the slight variation Dancing-pony at the SQ and PF. I started reading the Harry Potter books around the time GOF was published, and I've been dabbling in fan fiction on and off since then, as real life permits. I'm hoping to find a way to get in contact with Emelye, my SQ beta. I lost my contact iinformation in a computer crash last summer, and then the SQ went down so I had no way to reach her. I have an unfinished fic I'd like to work on again. Other than that, I just want to talk about HP and fan fiction. Fan fiction is my creative outlet in an otherwise noncreative life.

Thanks. I've never used any kind of live journal, so when I get to that point, I may need some advice. Right now, I just want to get working again.

Hey dancingpony! Have you tried PMing your beta on SQ? I know the forums are spotty, but I was able to get a PM from someone there, so that might reach her (if she is set up to get notified when she gets a PM). If you've already tried that, I'm sorry to bug you about it, but I thought I'd suggest it.

I did try, Rugi, but at the time I couldn't get anything to work.
Author by Night gave Emelye a message for me, though, and I got an email from her today. Yeah!
