This is the obligatory "introduce yourself" thread! Tell us a little bit about yourself here. I'm a twenty-something college student living in the outskirts of Baltimore, Maryland. (For those of you who have no idea where Baltimore is, I'm about an hour and a half away from Washington D.C.) I've been a Harry Potter fan since 1999, when I was forced to read the books by my father, who wisely knew I'd love them. I think the reason I love Harry Potter so much is because of the characters. I can believe that they're real (not always good for my inner fangirl) and become invested in them. I haven't always liked what JK Rowling has chosen to do with certain characters, but in the end, the books are about the trio anyway - and I loved what she did with them. My other obsessions are Earth's Children (though okay, more the universe itself than the books, though the first two were brilliant) and Firefly, which I watched after realizing half my friends online were in love with it. Sometimes I think I'm even more obsessed with Firefly than some of them. Enough about me!

Re: Firefly, don't you mean 'watched'? Or is there a book called Firefly that I don't know about?

Re: Firefly, don't you mean 'watched'? Or is there a book called Firefly that I don't know about? Okay, so Firefly's a show I've watched. I read my other obsessions.... I think that since there's only fourteen episodes, I forget it's a show sometimes.

I am a forty-something psychology teacher who bought the first Harry Potter book "for my children" but ended up more hooked than any of them.
Like AbN, I love Harry Potter for the characters - they just leap off the pages in amazingly few words. (Another of my favourite works of fiction is "Camilla", which is also brilliantly characterised and character-driven.)
I am an Englishwoman married to an Australian, and we are, psychologically, a two-home family, with roots in both Melbourne and Birmingham. Our children are Robert (now 16), Julia (13) and Benjamin (11). I am currently job-hunting, but not seriously worried about that situation not resolving itself soon.

I'm Vega Black a 46 year old house wife and Nanny. I have three children all of whom are adults now. I look after my niece and nephew while my sister works as an Engineer. I live in the Pacific Northwest.
I write a lot of Harry Potter fan fiction.

It's a pleasure to see you all again! I'm Zoe, a 21 year old uni student, venturing off to study comparative literature at one of (hopefully) four schools come fall.
I've had a falling out with Harry Potter ever since the denouement of our beloved series, interesting myself in other fiction, but Sugar Quill was an old niche of mine, so I'm ready to re-kindle old romances.
I no longer write fan fiction, but I will certainly read it!

I'm a twenty-something Chicagoan who put off reading the Harry Potter series for years, finally surrendering and reading what was the most recent book at the time - Deathly Hallows!
Having known of the series through Fandom Wank (heh, yeah), I knew every detail of what happened in the books before I read them but I read them anyway. I got hooked just like I expected I would (part of the reason why I resisted so long) and made my first forays into fandom in fall of 2007.
Aside from writing about 50k words in HP fic, I am now a member of a very awesome canon Harry Potter role-playing game called Hallowed Ground that focuses on the 7th book, joined a sorting comm and am running a fic fest this spring along with being a member of a few boards. When I fall for a fandom, I fall hard.
I mostly lurked on SQ and it broke my heart when the boards went down, they still don't work that well and it sucks. There was so much good stuff on there.

Hey, I'm Cat an 19 year old uni student from the southern wastelands below Australia (ie Tasmania). I received the books as a chrissie present before they actually became famous and have been hooked ever since.
I, like everyone here was very sad to see Sugarquill go down as I am now reduced to trawling fanfiction.net for decent pieces. Of course i have attempted to lift the standard there, but sadly there is quite a bit to be said for the lack of plotlines&talent in many of the stories on an un-betad site such as that.
As you may have noticed i'm very opinionated, and i'll try not to offend anyone (though i invariably end up doing so), and I'm more than happy to accept that had I attended Hogwarts, I would have been bedecked in silver and green before the Sorting Hat could shout Slytherin.

This might be better suited for another thread (if so, mods, please tell me) but:
What I tend to do with Fanfiction.net is find an author I like and then go through their favorites to find stories. I've found quite a few gems that way.

Hello, I'm a twenty-something from Sweden, who first read Harry Potter in 2000 and got involved in fandom in the spring of 2001. I haven't written any fanfic, but I used to read lots. Lots and lots and lots. Real life did (unfortunately?) eventually interrupt, and I haven't been as active these past three or four years. I still love HP though, and when I heard about this new board I thought that it might be fun to read HP discussions again. Ron/Hermione has always been my OTP, and I've always liked Harry/Ginny. I think I found the Sugar Quill through Zsenya's fanfiction.net profile, and I never looked back. With SQ more or less gone, I have mostly been keeping to LiveJournal for my HP fic needs, where I occasionally also read the odd Remus/Sirius fic. I used to be a huge shipper, and I am still full of TEH PUPPY LOVE, but as the canon-thumper I am and have always been, I don't really mind Remus/Tonks. In real life I'm currently studying at university (computer science, sort of) and have just bought my first cat! Yay! She's sooo cute, naturally. Before I started uni, I worked at a small riding school for kids, where I also kept my own horse for a few years before I had to have him euthanized due to illness. Hope to spend some of my allotted procrastination time here!

Hello all ... I was Ylime on the Sugar Quill, but unreversed my name for this forum ... I'm Scottish, in my early twenties, with a vast passion for old things and words. The Defining Feature of my life at the moment is being in the last stages of a BA in archaeology with no idea what happens next. Fandomwise, I'm a canon girl when it comes to shipping (Ron/Hermione!), but will freely 'fess up to a serious Draco/Ginny fondness. At one point I did write a lot of fic, but no more - as university waxed in my life so did my participation in fandom wane. Still, it's nice to be back in touch with it on this forum. One of the things which particularly drew me to the HP books was the world and the worldbuilding, which still fascinates me! See you all around ...

Hello!
I'm Mo, short for Maybe Once, which is how some of you may know me from other fandom communities. I've been active in discussion groups on other YA authors (Lucy Maud Montgomery and Madeleine L'Engle) and wrote some fanfic for The Office (US) tv show.
I started reading the HP books early on, and was hooked right away. I didn't follow any fanfic or fandom discussion, though, until post-DH, which turned out to be lucky, because there was a big backlog of fic out there for me to catch up on. I initially looked at fanfic.net, only because I didn't know where else to go...but thank goodness I soon found my way to SugarQuill and Checkmated, because FF.net is frankly a bit traumatic. (I've always had a soft spot for smart girls, sidekicks, funny guys and redheads, so it was a Perfect Storm of shippiness for R/Hr and me. I thought they were an obvious couple from book 1, and I confess to a slavish unwavering devotion to my OTP.) I didn't even see the first film until well after I'd read OoTP, so the movies are VERY secondary to my HP worldview.
Nowadays, I can be found on various forums and I still avidly read whatever good canon-based fanfic I can find. I started following RPGs last year, enjoying them like a sort of fun HP soap opera, but soon learned that most are now an outlet for non-canon folk who want to role play a different outcome than the books actually gave us. Like BirdG ^ up there, I am a player on Hallowed Ground, and it's really fun and great to see DH unfold in RP format. There are a lot of great people involved in the game and many interesting meaty characters are either still available or in the process of recasting...so, if you have an interest, definitely check out the game and PM me with any questions.

Hi, I'm Kelleypen, a seven squared Potterite high school English teacher from Utah. I have one husband, four children, one daughter in law, one adopted grandson. I'm an all-but empty nester. I was a quiller, am still at PS. I write HP fan fic and group fan fic (aka RP) and draw a bit of HP fanart. I love the Marauders, and am ticked that Jo killed them all off, since they were all born the same year as I was. I love writing Narcissa, Neville, and Charlie.

Hi, I'm DorisCrockford (and was a SQ, but am DorisCrockford2 on LJ because a Russian girl snagged the name first) and live in London. I also miss the Quill and am so happy nundu and Author By Night have taken the plunge here. My favourite authors are Jasper Fforde, Dorothy L. Sayers, Jane Austen and Philip Pullman. I am a huge "Lost" fan and if anyone wants to have a theory discussion, I'm all ears.

I'm Doctor Aicha. I'm rather a long time Quiller. It got too big, IMHO. Some of you may remember me, some not. I fought a lot with Heidi on her LJ once. No idea if anyone has the least idea who I am. But at any rate I"m a 30something professor. (Yes, really.) I love fanfic, especially next gen fic.

Also, I am a definate Slytherin, and Mike (spin1978) calls me Lord Voldemort when I phone him up. I'm not actually evil enough to split my soul, but I have zero patience with nonsense, zero patience with the "oh poor you!" and "your awesome OMG!" stuff you see on LJ and reviews. I'd rather that someone would say, "you're good, but..."

Heh, doctoraicha I would have said I was a Slytherin for the same reason but for some reason the Sorting Comm I joined put me in Gryffindor. Maybe I'm just an exceptionally cranky Gryffindor.

You know, I was thinking about my own "sorting" the other day, and I had a bit of Slyth/Gryff conflict of my own, but in the end figured that I'd be Gryffindor. Here is how it played out:
Hufflepuff? Easy to rule out. Frankly, I'm too lazy to qualify for the hard working bit, and, while I'm reasonably kind and caring, I am also a VERY snarky b*tch much of the time. No, there is very little Puff in the Mo creature.
Ravenclaw? I am a reader, and also can be quite pedantic and overly-academic. But, I'm more intuitive and impulsive than most Ravenclaws...without the tempering serenity that intuitive Ravenclaw Luna brings to the table.
Slytherin? Well, I am ambitious, and can be quite pragmatic. But, when it comes down to it, and my own best interest is to keep my mouth shut? Well, if I feel strongly about something, it doesn't matter how cunning it would be to hold back, I MUST SPEAK MY MIND. Which is why I settled on ...
Gryffindor. I may be ambitious. I may be self serving, snarky and even quite smart. But, in the end, I'm mostly just bold. Shameless, even.

Hi, I'm Lorelei Lynn. I'm a 30-something accountant and spend my spare time knitting and reading.
I first read HP in Dec 02. I discovered the online fandom and fanfiction (including SQ) a few months later. I've written some fanfiction of my own - mostly oneshots. I need to stop procrastinating and work on the fics I have in progress!
