So, we all know what happened in canon, what about the ARs: The what ifs of fanfic. Here are some I have ideas for
What if Frank and Alice Longbottom were never incapacitated. This we can do safely, Harry's back story wouldn't change, but Neville might be different, more confident?
What if Crouch survived GOF? would be be arrested if he survived book 7?
What if Peter Pettigrew was arrested? Now THIS is fun, I love how he died, it was pure poetic justice but I also think it would be fun to see the Aurors strip him down after the war.
What if Snape survived?
Any thoughts, what AU would you write?

Y'know what, Peter honestly didn't need to flee like that. If he'd thought a little bit, he could have spun a tale about being Crucio'd, put under the Imperius Curse, whatever. Hell, if the MALFOYS can get away with that, anyone can! Having Peter wandering around would be absolutely horrible for Sirius and Remus but it would enable Sirius to be there for Harry. However, I don't think Dumbledore would have let Harry go to live with Sirius even if he hadn't been framed. The blood protection was too important. Sirius and Petunia would have been forced to work out a joint custody agreement. ;D Can you imagine the discussions that would have taken? Would be a lot of fun to write.

No, but he's a coward so he did, but yeah he could get away with it just like the Malfoys did. Sirius and Petunia wokring out custody? That's too funny. As for him being arrested after the second wizarding war, I can just see him cowering in the interrogation room or whatever, and the disgusted aurors grilling him. Bye Peter! Yeah, blood protection kept Harry safe.

It would be comedy gold. I think McGonagall would arbitrate because she genuinely has Harry's best interests at work and she wouldn't allow either of them to mess around.
If Snape had survived... I don't know, I think he would have had a pretty miserable post-war life. He would owe his reputation to HARRY POTTER. Harry would be the one who told the truth about Snape - that he was always a double agent and that he was the one who helped to bring down Voldemort from the inside and Snape would have to thank him. Even so, some people would always doubt him. And while he might be happy to finally have an Order of Merlin award, I'm not sure whether he'd be able to stomach Harry naming a son after him.

That would be freakin hilarious~! Sirius turns into a dog and bites Petunia's butt! LOL!!! McGonagall glares at Sirius.
Snape, Snape, Snape. He just may have to get the chip off his shoulder and ADMIT Harry was OK, but likely wouldn't, probably hate him even more. Can you imagine his reaction when Harry stepped up to DEFEND Snape? Probably think Harry did it to appear a saint, which we know isn't Harry.
Pettigrew lives through book 7. . . go to Azkaban, go directly to Azkaban. Do not pas go. Do not collect 200 galleons, lol.

It was my belief, pre book seven, that if Snape did survive, he wouldn't stay in England. Nothing could make him stay. He'd wander over the world, and maybe come back decades later. Also, if he had lived I can't see Harry naming his son after him. Harry likes naming kids after people who are dead - Lily Luna notwithstanding.
If Hedwig hadn't died then book 7 would have been a lot more interesting.

I was (and still am) fairly hardcore about keeping true to canon - BUT - if I was going to do an AU :
Sirius would be alive, and reasonably well (a few dings from close scrapes, but not Moody-ized), a hero in the second war to defeat the Dark Lord. [Think of all the daring do! Think of all the bad jokes! Think of how gorgeous and all those adventures! ... ;D ....]
Ditto Dumbledore. By killing him off JKR took the standard "Hero's Journey" route, but I could see a lot more interesting adventures with him still around.

And imagine his reaction to Wormtail's death or to Snape killing DD or to the news Snape was on the good side?
