I have been on another proboard with the karma points, and I really don't think they do anything. It can become a sort of popularity contest, if you let it. I think they can be useful on an "advice" sort of board, where people are looking for troubleshooting help with their car/computer/garden/etc, so that people can have an idea of how reliable a poster's advice may be. Otherwise, it's just silliness. On a board like I just indiscriminately dole them out, kind of like sticking quarters in random parking meters.

I'm not sure what the karma points are.
mo made an excellent point about them having the potential to become contests - if we let them.
I can disable them, but so far, they seem to have simply been used as a fun thing between users, so I haven't. However, should it ever become a popularity contest, I will not hesitate - I definitely don't want anyone here to feel intimidated!
Regarding special privileges, there aren't any, at least not here.

So what does it mean to 'sticky' a thread?

You know how some threads are always at the top of the board regardless of how long since it's been since someone posted on it? Those threads tend to have either a Post-it like icon or a pin icon. It's just a method of keeping really important threads visible so they don't get lost in the shuffle and fall off the first page.
The mods have an option underneath the message box to "stick" the thread.

Is there any way to change the "Forum Statistics" at the bottom of the Index page from the 10 most recent in one topic to the 10 most recent posts on the board anywhere?
It would be nice to buzz down there and just see which topics have been active (hey, it could happen), rather than only the last topic that was active.
Thanks!
