Maternal love is a theme in the books. It's what gets the series in action with Lily sacrificing her life for Harry. Then there's Tonks, who sadly, doesn't get to be a mother for long b/c she dies (which irritates me when people say Tonks was irresponsible) and Molly who defeated Bellatrix after Bellatrix threatened Ginny and laughed at Molly's attack and paid. We also see Alice, who we don't know but can safely say had lots of love for Neville, and Merope who had nothing left to live for, but that's not to say didn't love her son
So what of the different types of mothers and maternal love in the book?
I think the way love is presented (especially maternal love) as being powerful is a good one, because it's true, and it also can show that if underestimated will make you pay.
