I couldn't find a general thread to comment in... If there's an already established one, feel free to merge this.
*sniff* I came in costume with Butterbeer to share and the Halloween party seems to have been canceled.

Truly, Britain chocolate leaves American behind in the dust.
Speaking of sweets, Halloween is past, but it's now the season to think about Thanksgiving and Christmas! This year I think I may try making a date cake. Last year I experimented with making biscotti, and the year before that my molasses cookies were a huge success. Baking is fun! What kind of cooking do you all like?

Truly, Britain chocolate leaves American behind in the dust. Well, you'll get to sample a lot when you come over. There are two sweet shops in Canterbury. One is full of continental chocolates and a pic'n'mix, the other is more traditional. I hope to show you both of them! Typical English, I like frying things but I'm also experimenting with casseroles and pies now.

I do apologize about Halloween, guys. Things came up IRL, and my plans to have people sign up for characters to roleplay never happened. However, I'll be instituting that next year, so stick around. Who knows, maybe even sooner than a year. My father and I always make an apple pie on Thanksgiving, so I look forward to that. Although I enjoy cooking it more than I enjoy eating it. I also often make deserts of some sort or another for Christmas, usually cookies.

My Mom found this in a magazine or newspaper sometime after The Dark Ages, and its been one of our Thanksgiving favourites ever since.
400 degree F 2 quart casserole dish with lid (or foil, but arch it up so that it doesn't touch the food)
2 Large Sweet Potatoes 2 Large Apples - peled, cored, thickly sliced 1 Cup Apple juice 3 Tablespons cornstarch 1/4 Cup firmly packed brown sugar 1 Tablespoon Lemon juice 2 Tablespons butter (or margarine) 1/2 Cup coarsly chopped walnuts (big chunks are really good)
Boil potatoes 15 minutes, or until almost tender. Peel and slice 1/4 inch thick.
In the 2 quart casserole dish toss together potatoes and apples.
Stir apple juice into cornstarch in a different bowl or measuring cup until smooth. Then stir in sugar and lemon juice.
Pour over potatoes and apples, dot with butter.
Cover.
Bake at 400 degrees F. for 30 minutes.
Uncover. Bake 10 minutes more.
Stir in walnuts.
Serves 6
It is really good. Really.

We should have a holiday party. Maybe cards IRL... At least deck these halls and share the season's joy.

So, Mardi Gras has come and gone, and that means it's now Lent, but I'm... noticing it, but not properly observing it, for the first time, and I feel kind of bad about that.

Guilt doesn't do anyone any good and draws negative stuff. Give it your best, all things considered, and feel good about your efforts.
Besides, there's enough stuff to feel bad about, this doesn't need to be more because you can change it.
